Cine Film Workshops
Gauge Film runs workshops that helps demystify the 8mm and 16mm formats. Most workshops are run as day courses in Birmingham at The Old Print Works in collaboration with Darkroom Birmingham. Participants are provided with relevant film stock and cameras for each course.
All of our film courses aim to enhance the filmmakers knowledge and thus control over the chemically formed image. The workshops also help cut production costs by teaching individuals how to develop film themselves in their own homes. Courses fill up quickly and spaces are available on a strictly first come first serve basis. If courses are listed as sold please contact us. We can put your name down for the next available course and contact you before we advertise it. |
Current Workshops
Bolex 16mm Cine Camera & B&W Negative Processing TBC
£110.00
This workshop will be of interest to 16mm newcomers and veterans alike. The Bolex H-16, the Bolex H-16 Reflex and the Bolex H-16 EL are three iconic independent film making cameras you will be getting to grips with and shooting on during this workshop. They have been chosen for their durability, versatility, affordability and perhaps most importantly their unique differences. The course covers everything from basic camera operation (such as loading the camera) to more advanced functions and features like slow motion, focusing lenses, manual exposure and double exposures.
In the evening, after the film has been shot you will learn how to load processing tanks, develop the emulsion and splice and dry the film stock. The image forming process will be explained thoroughly so by the end of the day you'll understand how light enters your cameras lens and creates an image on the film. We will also advise you on how to make your own home-built darkroom so you wont have to rely on institutional support to make your movies. After the films are dry they will be projected and viewed. We digitize the film shot on the day and participants will receive a reversed digital copy of everything captured on the workshop.
