This course focuses on processing 8mm and 16mm B&W reversal film with D-19 chemicals in the Lomo UPB-1/ UPB-1A developing tank. In the morning we will go over mixing the the developer and bleach from scratch safely. You will learn about what each raw chemical does in the formula and how it will effect the image during development. Tank loading for Super 8, Double 8 and 16mm film will also be covered during the first period and participants will all get a chance to load films into the tanks themselves. We will supply one 50ft roll of film for demonstration purposes but please feel free to bring your own length of 8mm or 16mm reversal film (50ft max) for processing on the day.
During the second half of the day you will process the film with the UPB1/ UPB1-A developing tank. We'll walking you through each step of the process from the first developer to the final wash. Then participants will all get a chance to process themselves if they feel confident enough. By the end of the day you will fully grasp how light forms the B&W reversal image. After the films are dry you will get to splice and project (reviewing the film you have processed on the course). We will cover how to make your own home-built darkroom and drying racks so you don't have to rent a space or rely on institutional support in order to process your films.
