On this workshop you will be getting to grips with the Bolex Double 8 camera system. We'll be using three different models throughout the day (the K2 the P3 and P4). The workshop covers everything from basic operations (such as loading the camera) to more advanced functions and features like slow motion, focusing lenses correctly and manual exposure with external light meters. You'll also learn about film speed (ASA or ISO) and the circumstances in which you'll want to reach for a certain type of film. We'll cover the dreaded f-stop and will explain how and why you might want to over or under expose your film in certain situations.
In the evening, after the film has been shot you will learn how to load processing tanks, develop the emulsion, slit, splice and dry the film stock. The image forming process will be explained thoroughly so by the end of the day you'll understand how light enters your cameras lens and creates an image on the film. We will also advise you on how to make your own home-built darkroom so you wont have to rely on institutional support to make your movies. After the films are dry they will be projected and viewed. We digitize the film shot on the day and participants will receive a reversed digital copy of everything captured on the workshop.
