Short Colour Neg Telecine Test

25/3/2014

Here is a very quick colour neg test using the baseline telecine service. Please ignore the hairs and dirt. I literally just found the first bit of neg film to hand and had a quick pop at it. You all know I like to keep you abreast of the work (no matter how messy at first). I did a bit of colour work in post on this short clip as well. I have to say for a first (pretty rushed) attempt I'm happy with it. The question is would you guys use this service if it hit the shop? Remember to hit HD in the youtube settings.

Changes to Baseline Telecine Services

22/3/2014

Hi everyone. There have been some important alterations to the Baseline Telecine Services this last week to help simplify things for customers. Now all you need to do is send me the original shooting speed and I'll do speed alterations for you. So your video will be recognized as 25fps (PAL) by software whilst playing at the correct speed (either 16, 18 or 24fps). The important thing to remember is this makes them frame accurate in editors whilst playing at the correct speed. I get a lot of questions about frame rate so hopefully this will help. I've also upgraded the codec from M-JPEG to H.264. This is a much superior codec all around for playback and editing on both MAC and PC. They'll play in Windows Media Player and QuickTime. Furthermore you'll be able to edit them in Premiere Pro and Final Cut smoothly. Youtube and Vimeo love the H.264 codec so that's also a bonus.

The Last of the E100D

21/3/2014

There are only 8 E100D carts left in my store at the moment. Wittner don't have any left under the original Kodak branding so after they have gone that will be it... I think. I say 'I think' because I've been told by Wittner they will be stocking it in future under their own branding but depending on the pricing I may not offer it because it's getting rather expensive and we are selling less and less of it these days. It is by far my favorite colour reversal film stock and I'll be very sad to see it go but I guess it had to happen sometime. Hopefully Wittner will offer it below 40 Euro's per cart but it's doubtful. Anyway if you want to get your hands on some, act fast.

B&W Negative Telecine Service Opens

18/3/2014

Anyone on the website recently might have noticed a  new negative tab. Over the coming months this tab will become populated with new B&W negative services and then eventually colour neg. The first addition is B&W telecine. Eventually when we have time to experiment with colour neg these telecine services will just become generic neg telecine services for both colour and B&W but for now they are limited to B&W. So if you have any B&W neg you need transferring we're your lab!

First B&W Neg Tests

13/3/2014

Just though you might like to see the first ever B&W neg efforts from Gauge. I decided to go for the D-76H formula which is friendlier for the environment than D-76. It seems to have worked a treat here on some Orwo UN 54 B&W film I shot down in Littlehampton a couple of weeks ago. I wont know for sure how successful I've been until it's dry and I can run it through my projector tomorrow. Experience tells me it's pretty spot on though! I'll do a telecine on it over the weekend and post it onto youtube for you all to see sometime next week. I always like uploading first attempts so keep a look out for that.

Megatank 2 - Stage 2 - Please Help

11/3/2014

Hi everyone. So we're getting uncomfortably close to the new tax year and the 2nd megatank has not come to fruition just yet but we're getting close. We have the bottom spindles made and another mega stack of spirals! All we need now is the tank body and we're home free. If you recall the idea of constructing the 2nd megatank was to keep processing prices fixed for another year and laugh in the face of rising costs. It would also make turnaround faster overall which is a great bonus (especially in the summer). If you can afford to please use our film service as much as possible from now up until the end of March! I'm still optimistic about getting it done before then to avoid the price jump. As always I'm at the mercy of how frequently my services get used in regards to how much I can invest so please make one last push on the tank body folks! It's sunny outside, get filming!
