Important Future Processing Possibilities

As I mentioned in my last post it's a make or break month  here in regards to importing more film stock from Wittner. This negative processing machine is one of the reasons we want to make it work. A very kind chap gave us this processor for free to help us attempt to keep film alive and affordable here in the UK. With a little restoration and conversion (from 35/16mm to 8mm/16mm) we'll be able to start processing B&W neg films and later on in the year colour neg (after I have devised some machinery to remove the remjet backing). Please, please purchase as much 100D/ 50D and processing from us as you can this month. ALL the income will go towards making a larger order from Wittner which will include neg stock for testing (read my last post to get the whole story on the next Wittner order) and will also go towards servicing the processor. We want to get this processor up to scratch, start offering an affordable neg service and basically offer a good selection of Super 8, Double 8 and 16mm neg film stocks as well as reversal. We cannot achieve this if we cannot raise the money for it from our current 100D and 50D reversal order. I'm confidant we can turn the dismal beginnings of 2013 around and I'm doing everything I can to make it happen as quickly as possible so we don't fold on the film front. This will determine the course of small gauge film in the UK. We've done a lot to bring film prices down this past year and the larger companies have had to follow suite. Without my little lab selling film (I'm sorry to say) these bigger UK companies will be left once again to (quite frankly) charge extortionate prices for film which in the long term will kill it off altogether. This little lab is determined to stop this from happening.

Oh my god, that looks like a great piece of kit Kevin. I really hope you get it sorted out and up and running.
It would be nice to see some more photos of it, a video would be even better.

On a side note, how much work is needed to make this machine work?

Have you also advertised this on the filmshooting web site? or any of the other websites that feature 8mm filming?

best.
John.

No too much work. It all seems to be ok apart from the thermostat. We will need to deck it out to take 8mm as well. But hopefully we should be processing B&W neg with it in no time.

No I haven't just yet. When I'm confidant we'll still be dealing with film I'll broach the filmshooting website to hut down an electrician or engineer who might be able to advise me with the thermostat and conversion. I'll be setting up the telecine machine this month though so I wont get to tackle it until March.

Hope all is well
Kev

This looks great Kev. Can it knock up a decent cappuccino too?

Any news on the telecine machine yet? Looking forward to transferring a few films.

All the Best

Simon

Have you thought about doing a kick starter bid to buy the gear you need? Might work. Worth a try & it promotes film at the same time!

Great ! Just what we need in UK. Small but dedicated etc. Have added your site to my Links list and I shall be telling my shop customers down in Dorset of your film services. I find that there is substantial and continuing super-8 interest, but the Archilles Heel is cost of processing and overseas shipping.
All the best
Doug
